It really depends how crowded the pool is, and what time of year it is. Mid Week often even very popular hotels wont check your room key, but on the weekends they will stop everybody.

The time I stayed at Paris is was Early April and the weather was not too hot. So the pool wasnt very crowded and I dont remember them checking peoples room keys as they entered the pool.

A tip for you though. Strike up a converstation with someone in the casion and ask them if they would walk to the pool with you. As long as you are with someone who has a key, normally its not a problem. I did that once at Mandalay Bay when I was staying at Excalibur.
