3 Reasons to Travel While You’re Young

3 Reasons to Travel While You’re Young

If you’ve graduated college and have yet to get a passport you have an emptiness inside. You are stuck in the rat race of daily routine. Never enlightened to anything outside your own culture. As each year ticks by you’re getting closer to depriving yourself of ever experiencing the world.

Terameno, Sicily

Do you think it will get any easier to travel when you’re married and have a ton of responsibilities? Don’t settle for being ordinary.” Have you ever though to yourself. “I hate this city, it’s always the same old predictable routine.” You’re doing this to yourself by being a follower of the crowd. A Sheep! Your friends aren’t as interesting as you may think they are or your wouldn’t feel this void.

The other night, I had a conversation with a young woman who had a number of decisions ahead of her, one of which was whether she should go to grad school or travel the world. I told her to travel. Hands down. No excuses. Just go. The rewards are worth the costs.

She sighed.
“Yeah, but…”
Never were more fatal words spoken:
• Yeah, but… what about debt?
• Yeah, but… what about my job?
• Yeah, but… what about my boyfriend (or dog or car or whatever)?

“Yeah, but…” makes it sound like we have the best of intentions when really we are just too scared to do what we should. It allows us to be cowards, while sounding noble.

Most people I know who waited to travel the world never did. Be careful of the yeah-but. The yeah-but will kill the dreams of your youth.

The life you’ve always wanted

When you get older, life seems to just sort of happen to you. Your youth is a time of total empowerment. You get to do what you want. But as you mature and gain new responsibilities, you have to be very intentional about making sure you don’t lose sight of what’s important. So if you still have a reasonable amount of control over your circumstances, you should do what really matters. Because life won’t always be just about you.

Paris

During early adulthood, your worldview is still being formed. It’s important to give yourself opportunities to grow. A good way to do that is to travel. You will regret few risks you take when it comes to this. I promise you that. There are three reasons to travel while you’re young:

1. Traveling teaches you to live an adventure

In your lifetime, you will not be able to remember all of your experiences over the years. You will, however remember the special moments. The feeling you have for a moment in your life when you feel part of something.

CafeDelMar 300x180 3 Reasons to Travel While You’re Young

Cafe Del Mar Ibiza

While you’re young, you should travel. You should take the time to see the world and taste the fullness of life. It’s worth whatever investment or money or sacrifice of time that may be required on your part. This is not about being a tourist. It’s about experiencing true risk and adventure so you don’t have to live in fear for the rest of your life.

2. Traveling helps you encounter compassion

In your youth, you will make choices that will define you. The disciplines you begin now will be with you for the rest of your life. Traveling will change you like little else can. It will put you in places that will force you to care for issues that are bigger than you.

Seaside, Amalfi Coast, Italy

If you go to Asia, you may encounter the slave trade. If eastern Europe, you may see the effects of genocide and religious persecution. If Haiti, you’ll witness the the ugly side Western paternalism.

Your heart will break. You will begin to understand that the world is both a big and small place. You will have a new-found respect for the pain and suffering that over half of the world takes for granted on a daily basis. And you will feel more connected to your fellow human beings in a deep and lasting way. You will learn to care.

3. Traveling allows you to get some culture

While you’re still young, you should get cultured. Get to know the world and the magnificent people that fill it. There’s nothing quite like sitting beside thousands of people from all over the globe to watch a sunset at Ibiza’s Café Del Mar..

Shangri La Hotel Paris 300x225 3 Reasons to Travel While You’re YoungI can describe Paris to you, but the feeling that the city gives to me is something you’d have to experience for yourself. You can read all the books in the world about the Great Wall of China, but being there is a different story.
The world is a stunning place, full amazing adventures. See it. Do this while you’re still young. Do not squander the time. You will never have it again.

You have a crucial opportunity to invest in the next season of your life now. Whatever you sow, you will eventually reap. Please. For your sake, do this. Because you won’t always be young. And life won’t always be just about you. So travel. Experience the world for all it’s worth. Become a person of culture, adventure, and compassion.

“What if I’m not young?”

Travel, anyway. It may not be easy to do, but find a way to get out of your comfort zone. It’s really never too late.
But if you haven’t gotten sucked into the routine of life yet, I implore you to  TRAVEL. It will never be easier than it is right now for you to do that which really matters.

Robert asks…

Holiday destination for 16 year olds?

Me and my friend were thinking of going away to Spain, where could we go? We are quite party animals so wouldn’t mind if it is a bit crazy. Where is cheap with a few clubs and bars? Please, no comments about being under-age drinkers etc.

full square brown cropped Package Holiday Ibiza

Players Club Tours answers:

Ibiza is usually number one on the list of party places in Spain. Benidorm and Alicante are popular with holidaymakers too but I think Alicante is a bit of an older crowd. Benidorm used to be the king of the package holiday – I’m not sure if it still is.

You could also go to the Canary Islands – I think you’d be looking at Tenerife or Lanzarote for clubs over there.

I’m not sure how well you will do if you’re 16 though – some places are a lot tougher than they used to be with underage drinking………or just binge drinking in general – I know Ibiza have been trying to calm things down, but I would have thought it might be your best bet out of the lot for getting drinks.

Players Club Tours answers:

Absolutely, until 3* is good not less otherwise you will be mix with ordinary undesirable people
@Those who made comments about stars in hotels, nobody could put themselves the stars without international convention, otherwise it’s a violation to international regulations.
Stars are distributed according to the service, and technically there are some international controllers to check hotels especially if they are chain hotels like, ” Holiday Inn, Ramada, Radisson, Intercon, Sofite, Ibiza, Novotel, Hilton. These are just example of hotels that would never put their own stars without any international approvation. These hotels held their international convention to update and review their regulation if they merit or not to have stars, if service has a lot of complains they gain or lose their stars.

Has anyone ever bought a last minute summer holiday?

Hi! Basically my boyfriend and I have just decided we want to go away somewhere for a week over the summer but we can’t go until July. We’re both students and can’t really afford the really expensive peak holiday time prices, so we were thinking about booking one really last minute. Has anyone ever got a really good deal doing it that way or is it not a good idea?

Players Club Tours answers:

Ive done it twice, once to Ibiza & once to Corfu. Both were amazing deals. Ibiza I booked it & 13 days later went away, for Corfu I booked it & we flew 46 hours later! I highly reccommend it, Corfu was even allocation on arrival & it was a beautiful hotel & very cheap. Was a hassle trying to pack so quickly, but if you can do it its totally worth it.

My Destination: Ibiza

Ibiza is the 3rd biggest of the Spanish Balearic Islands. A favorite with the hippy community in the swinging sixties, Ibiza is famous today for its crazy nightlife, with dance clubs like Space, Privilege and Cream famous throughout the world. The island itself is more than just a club capital though it also has some magnificent scenery, unspoilt towns and villages of quaint houses, historical sites and white sandy beaches

The island capital of Ibiza Town (also called Eivissa), has a splendid old sector of myriad alleys and cobbled roads, which has only recently been designated a World Heritage Site. Top attractions of the old walled quarter, called Dalt Vila, include the cathedral of Nuestra Senora de las Nieves started in the early 13th century, and the recently renovated hilltop fort. The nightlife in Ibiza Town is found in the Sa Penya area. The original nightclub, Pacha, has been open for over 30 years, is situated in this area.

Further south of Ibiza Town is the holiday resort of Playa d en Bossa, which boasts the biggest Blue Flag beach on Ibiza Island. The popular night clubs, Space and Bora Bora, are both found there, as is the water park, Aguamar. Further south of Playa d en Bossa is one of the best natural sites, the salt lagoons of Ses Salines which provide an important sanctuary for flamingos and many other birds. The beaches in this region, many of which are favored by-nudists, are thought as some of the best on the island.

The resort town of Santa Eulalia is located a few minutes north of Ibiza Town. Popular with both young families and couples, this first class destination has kept its pretty old sector complete with the original 16th century church. A short drive from Santa Eulalia in a beautiful location alongside pine forests, is the town of Es Cana. This small resort is famous for the huge hippy street market, held here each Wednesday. Another holiday resort close to Santa Eulalia, also with a picturesque setting by a beautiful bay, is the peaceful town of Cala Llonga.

Many of the clubbing venues, including the Es Paradis and Eden, are found in the West End part of San Antonio town. As well as the wild nightlife, the town also has fine sandy beaches, a few of which are located in tiny sheltered coves. Ferries to other beaches can be taken from the marina. San Antonio also has loads of water sports to help keep the tourists busy during the daytime.

The north and west coast is home to some fantastic beaches and plenty of quiet coves. Resort towns in this region include Puerto San Miguel plus Portinatx, which both are a good base camp for touring some of the picturesque Ibiza villages. The north of Ibiza, noted for its forested landscape, is very popular with ramblers and bicyclists.

Ibiza airport is located just over 5 miles (nearly 8km) south of Ibiza Town. There are a regular buses between the airport and the town center in the day and there are good services to most resorts all over the island.

Watch the sunset at Cafe Del Mar

tumblr l5hhp8rjUf1qccooqo1 500 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

At the far end of San Antonio Bay lies the world-famous sunset strip and the bar that launched all those chill-out compilations you find in record stores all over the planet – The Café Del Mar. Get here before sunset and grab a long cool drink in readiness for one of the most memorable sights you will ever witness. The promenade and rocks by the seafront are thronged each night with people of all ages, some getting ready for the clubs, but all sharing the spectacle and the sunset soundtrack provided by the cafés.

Walk the old streets of Ibiza town after midnight

tumblr lpgq9x5tFz1qenke8o1 500 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

With the old walled city of Dalt Vila lit up like something out of a fairytale, this is one of the most captivating experiences Ibiza has to offer. Even long after midnight, you’ll find bars, cafés and all sorts of boutiques still open and selling their wares. The scent of the evening by the port is something you will forever associate with long summer nights. And then of course there are the club parades. Pacha, Amnesia et al send out their entourages into the streets around the port, handing out their flyers and enticing you into their clubs. It’s worth staying out late just to catch a glimpse or two of the ‘beautiful people’ as they troupe by.

Visit the Hippie Market in Es Cana

18 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

Catch a bus, taxi or ferry to the resort of Es Cana on the east side of the island. Just outside of town you’ll find a hillside covered with stalls selling all manner of hippy-related goodies. Leather goods from jackets and handbags to belts, shoes and accessories. Trinkets, beaded necklaces and bangles. Pipes and bongs and other curious talking points for the mantel back home. Tie-dyed shirts and trousers and scarves, of course, alongside more modern clothing. The market has undergone a pinch of commercialisation in more recent years, but the spirit lives on or, to paraphrase, the song remains the same!

Visit Cala D’Hort to see the famous rock of Es Vedra

20110912 035541 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

This imposing creation of nature wouldn’t look out of place as the villain’s hideout in a Bond film. Some 400 metres high, Es Vedra simply dominates the view out to sea. It’s an official nature reserve, and lies some 3km off the coast. Visit the area of Cala D’Hort at any time of day and you’ll be impressed, but it is at sunset that the rock truly comes into its own. Make sure there’s plenty of room on your camera, as you won’t want to come away from here without a handful of memories of this most photogenic of landscapes.

Clubbing – Amnesia , Pacha , Space and Privilege

privilege 2 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

There is nothing to compare to the superclubs of Ibiza. Frankly, the rest of the world is the runner-up. Privilege alone has a capacity of around 10,000 people, Pacha is the year-round club, and a favourite of the locals as well as the tourists, while Space invented the concept of the day-club, kicking off their parties when the other clubs are kicking you out of the door at sunrise. In Ibiza, you can literally party until you drop from exhaustion. And you wouldn’t be the first!

Have a traditional Spanish Paella

spanish paella Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

The Paella was born in Valencia hundreds of years ago, and the rice dish was cooked with the local game of the time, including rabbit, chicken and snails. In Ibiza, however, seafood has  replaced the snails, though Paella on the island will often include rabbit and chicken. You simply must sample this incredibly flavoursome dish. Saffron is used to flavour and colour the rice to give it that dusty yellow look, and the taste, well, it’s unique. There is simply nothing to compare it against. Many restaurants on the island cook their paella in giant pans, anything up to six feet in circumference!

Visit the neighbouring Island Es Palmador and take a dip in the mud baths

resort koycegiz6 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

It matters not whether you actually need a mud bath, the point is about wanting one. When you find Es Palmador, this island may well trick you into believing you’re in the middle of the loneliest spot in the Caribbean, but don’t be fooled, because the experience here is at least one step better than that. Chill the hell out in one of the most remote, most relaxing spots on the planet. Like this needs more explaining!

See the firework display at the old town of Ibiza on August the 15th

13729 500X500 Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

Regular visitors to this site will already understand just how enthusiastic the Ibicencs are about their fireworks. Not a festival goes by without an explosive display. The big one, however, takes place on the night of August 15th, the Spanish-wide celebration of the ascension of the  Virgin Saint of Paloma, a woman rescued from men and revered to this day. It’s a national holiday not just in Ibiza, but in all of the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain itself. There is no equivalent in the UK but then, this is not the UK, and there will always be a reason to party here. This is quite simply the biggest party there is, so prepare to be awed.

Visit the beach club Bora Bora in Playa Den Bossa

6a010535c2d78f970c0154345ea265970c 500wi Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

The day-long party area of Ibiza is waiting especially for you. We’re not kidding – there’s your table, your Pina Colada on the mat, and the five thousand near-naked close friends you’re about to make. What on earth are you waiting for?

Visit Benirras beach for the Sunday drumming party

tambores en benirr%C3%A1s Top 10 Things To Do While Visiting Ibiza

Come see the hippies in all their natural glory at Benirras beach (just around the corner from Port de San Miguel). At sunset each Sunday, the drums and bongoes begin, and you can dance around the fires until the sun comes up again. Step back in time to the Summer of Love, live and not remotely exclusive.

The Top 10 Clubs Around The World | Club

Follow our Travels on Twitter—>>
//
Also on Facebook–>
Sankeys Nightclub~ England

It’s not the biggest club around England, but in this case, size doesn’t matter. How many other clubs do you know are ex-mills? Their aim is for you to have a good time, and luckily, you’ll find it hard to be disappointed. Three rooms (The Bar, The Basement, and The Boutique) each give you a different flavour, but for pure dancing, The Basement’s the place to be. What really had Sankeys flying up DJmag’s Top 100 Clubs Poll, though, was their “increasingly on-point” DJ line-ups. Justice and Carl Craig are only two of the regulars; where else would you want to be?

Warung Nightclub~Brazil

The party mood and rawness of nature that South America is famous for are fully infused in Warung. Surrounded by a beach and a rainforest, something about the passion of partying like mad amid the elements just feels right. If I had the use of a plane for a night, and could jet around the world to all the distant night clubs one after the other, this would be unquestionably be on the list. Add to that international DJs like Craig Vickers and Rowan Blades, and you’ve got all the exoticism you could ever want in a night club in Warung.

The Guvernment Nightclub~Canada

You knew we had to have a Canadian club in here right?). But in all honesty, from an unbiased standpoint, this is one serious super club (nominated for Best Global Club in the International Dance Music Awards). With a capacity of 4000+, hydraulic light grids, and nine, count’em nine, specialized rooms, the Guvernment hosts more parties than Paris Hilton. You want futuristic? Go to the Orange Room. Feel like something mystical Moroccan? Try Tanja. Or just head up to the Skybar for a view of downtown Toronto that will leave you in awe. You can’t go wrong.

Pacha Nightclub~Ibiza

Ibiza’s roster of night clubs is as impressive as their night clubs’ rosters of DJs. The leading club in this roster? Pacha. It contains a maze of five rooms each presenting a different atmosphere, and a restaurant that serves sushi. As Ibiza’s trailblazing night club, Pacha has gone through an elegant transformation throughout the years, and in addition, hosts DJs like David Guetta. Like the Guvernment, it has been nominated for Best Global Club at the IDMAs, and is fully deserving of this honour.

Fabric Nightclub~Europe

Recently named the best club in the world (again) by DJmag, Fabric is a club that is universally acknowledged as being the best at what it does because it simply focuses on the heart of club culture: the music. Although Fabric has been graced by the presence of top DJs, it is most widely celebrated for bringing underground dance music and more obscure, but still talented DJs to the spotlight. Fabric was also the first club in Europe to house what it calls a “bodysonic” dancefloor: clubbers on the dancefloor can literally shake it to the beat because parts of the floor are hooked up to 400 bass transducers that pump out the music being played, right into the dancing bodies via their feet. With 25000 square feet of room to get shook in a club in which “there’s never been so much as a dud DJ,” Fabric more than deserves a spot in this list.

Space Nightclub~Ibiza

Another nominee for Best Global Club (and another Ibizan club), Space does not lack any, as it was built on a sprawling parking lot. Its history is so deep-rooted in the growth of club culture that there is almost a kind of mutual respect between Space and the world-class DJs who have played there over the years. Extensive renovations have only improved this Ibizan paradise, and with its consistent Top 2 ranking in DJmag’s last few polls, Space is here to stay.

Womb Nightclub~Japan

If any derivative of the word “technology” has not crossed your mind yet… then I must say I’m very disappointed in you. As would be expected of a Japanese creation, Womb is ultramodern (DJmag calls it a “space station”), with first-class lights and sounds – with major emphasis on sounds. Womb features plenty of space on its sizeable dance floor, above which hangs one of Japan’s largest disco balls: 1.5m across. Glass walls on the top floor overlooking everything? A cracking sound system? DJs like Paul Oakenfold and Sven Väth? Womb does Tokyo proud.

Amnesia Nightclub~Spain

What is with Spain and its amazing night clubs? When the ice cannon welcomes you with a shower of dry ice, you know that you’ve arrived. As befits the night club crowned Best Global Club by the IDMAs, Amnesia’s sound system leaves little to be desired. Cream night at Amnesia always brings out the crowds, and the foam parties are inimitable. With a line-up that includes Armin van Buuren and Sven Väth, Amnesia has all its bases covered. What else would you expect from the best in the world?

Cocoon Nightclub~Germany

Cocoon is another club that is linked with Sven Väth, but unlike the others, this night club completely bears the stamp of this legendary DJ. You can’t help but feel like you are really in a cocoon, although maybe in an über-modern style of cocoon. Both visually and acoustically, this club’s design is awe-inspiring; there is a 100m across, 360 degree screen bounces synchronized lights and images off it like no other. Add to that stunning cocoon-like features like a 100m long iridescent “Membrane Wall” and actual “cocoons” (each with a minibar, light controls, and a sound system), and once you get into Cocoon, you won’t want to come back out.

Zouk Nightclub~Singapore

How big is Zouk? It was the first night club in Singapore to play House music, and today is all the rage with the nation’s clubbing crowd. Zouk actually isn’t a club; it’s three interconnected clubs: Zouk, Phuture, and Velvet Underground – you can get an idea of what these three spaces are like, both visually and musically, by their names. Phuture is futuristic and plays broken beats, Velvet Underground has exquisite velvet-covered walls and plays laid-back house and soul, and Zouk, the main dancing stage, plays a blend of everything. Want more proof of Zouk’s commitment to being the best in Southeast Asia? It makes a point of sending its DJs to Europe and the US on a regular basis for “re-orientation,” and to acquire new music. Next time you plan a trip to Singapore, don’t leave until you’ve experienced Zouk.
