Macau

Donald Macau

Donald asks…

Is it possible to live a Portuguese-only life in the Chinese special administrative region of Macau?

A friend of mine from Brazil will be living in Macau for at least one year for a temporary job posting. Portuguese is his first language and he speaks not a word of Chinese.

Macau was formerly a colony of Portugal that was returned to China in 1999. Portuguese is retained in the territory as one of its co-official languages. However, the Cantonese dialect of Chinese is the major native language of Macau and only a small portion of the population uses Portuguese on a regular basis.

Still, is Portuguese prevalent enough in Macau where you could survive using just that language? Are all government services still offered in Portuguese? Are media and cultural resources still widely available in the language? Do enough everyday people in Macau have at least some basic knowledge of the language so that you can undertake all your day-to-day tasks (i.e. shopping, getting around, paying utility bills, etc.) in Portuguese?

Players Club Tours answers:

They speak Portuguese, in some areas,
Althought the majority of the Macanese people speak Cantonoese, they know at least the basics of Portuguese (or an hybrid version of it, Creole) if they are native to the island.

Yes, your friend will be able to live in Macau as if he was living in Portugal.
Macanese culture was influenced by the Portuguese themselves. Just look at it’s architecture, gastronomy, etc.

St Thomas Virgin Islands All Inclusive

Betty St Thomas Virgin Islands All Inclusive

Betty asks…

U.S Virgin Islands? Anyone ever been there and are there any all inclusives?

I am having a hard time finding information regarding St Thomas and St Croix areas. I am looking for unique rooms that offer jacuzzi’s either indoors or outdoors that are private. All inclusive hotel listings will score you points!!!!

full square brown cropped St Thomas Virgin Islands All Inclusive

Players Club Tours answers:

Loved to help you out. There are not many all-inclusive resorts in the USVI. I only know 3 and they are in St Thomas. The Marriott Frenchman”s Reef has an all-inclusive option, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort has semi and all-inclusive options available, Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa also has all-inclusive option.

To be truthful, the restaurants are excellent in the USVI and I can’t imagine wanting an all-inclusive resort.

Maybe other islands like Jamaica , Barbados, Dominican Republic, Aruba or even Mexico are better options for you.
Sandals Resort sound like the type of place you are looking for. Http://www.sandals.com
They are all-inclusive and have private pools and jacuzzi

Have you checked tripadvisor for some other suggestions.

When we go to the USVI, we stay on St John and rent a villa. They usually have a pool or hot tub. Sometimes both.
We provision the villa our self for breakfast, lunch, snacks, soft drinks and liquor. We usually go out to dinner every night. We love having all that space verus a resort room.

Good Luck, maybe other posters can come up with some help)

Linda Ibiza Hotels

Linda asks…

Best (& most beautiful) PARTY vacation spots for a group of girls?

Hi!
Me and 6 or 7 other girls are planning to go away around April next year (when we all finish school). Coming from Toronto in Canada. We’ll all be 19/20 years old and are looking to go somewhere tropical and beautiful but where we can also really party. Location ideas? Details?
Also, I’ve never booked a vacation before so any suggestions on the most inexpensive yet safe and hospitable way of going about doing so would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much.

Players Club Tours answers:

Safe? Stay in the US. Panama City, FL is a big party spot, although it could be a bit difficult (not too bad) to drink since you’ll be under 21.

Beautiful? Punta Cana, DR is awesome and a great party place, although it isn’t the safest area in the world. Greek Islands, such as Mykanos, have a great party scene and are safe, but relatively expensive.

Party? Cancun and Ibiza are the tops in the world. Ibiza is expensive, Cancun is not as safe as some others, but they are the top places to go.

Alternative idea: Go to a college somewhere that has a liberal party atmosphere and party your asses off. Everyone will love a group of girls showing up to their parties, you won’t have to pay for anything, and you can stay in the safety of the US/Canada.

In general, book a flight and hotels on Kayak (or a vacation package/cruise which can be really fun as well), don’t trust anyone who solicits you (always use cabs/hotels/bars that you seek out), and don’t ever go somewhere alone and you’ll be fine and have a great time.

Greece Vacations

Chris Greece Vacations

Chris asks…

When Visiting to Greece what are some of the Important things to know?

Im having to write a paper in english. We have to plan a long trip. Do i need a Pass port of Visa to go to Greece? Are there Taxis over there? or what is a good way to have transportation over there. Do i need any kind of shots before i go over there?

full square brown cropped Greece Vacations

Players Club Tours answers:

Depending on where you are traveling from, you may need a passport. If you are already within the EU, then probably not. As for a Visa–that depends…are you just vacationing or planning on staying long? If you are planning on staying long and working there, then you most definitely need a Visa. As far as I know, you don’t need shots to go to Greece.

There are plenty of taxis over in Athens. They also have a bus system and a good metro system. To get around, I would do either taxi, metro or walk–the bus is not always reliable and may take a long time.

Bring walking shoes/sneakers though, because overall Greece is a lot of walking and is very hilly and rocky. Most major sites require some kind of walking or light hiking, so be careful. The coast is beautiful and the islands even better.

Royal Caribbean Freedom Of The Seas

Mandy Royal Caribbean Freedom Of The Seas

Mandy asks…

Royal Caribbean cruises: Freedom of the seas, MAriner of the Seas?

Worth the extra expense on board the freedon of the seas? Is alcohol (example: cocktails) same price on one ship and on another?

full square brown cropped Royal Caribbean Freedom Of The Seas

Players Club Tours answers:

Here’s my review of the Freedom:

We went on voyage # 23 on Nov 5th, 2006 on the Freedom of the Seas. It is a very nice ship, but not one I want to cruise on again. This ship is designed to attract young people and families with kids. It will compete with Carnival and Disney because of its features.

I was somewhat surprised that check-in for a ship holding over 4,000 passengers went so quickly. The check-in could have been even faster if they had more than one person checking Set Sail Passes at the door and opened more stations to take security photos for the Sea Pass. As it was it took less than 45 minutes.

I will not try to list all of the great new and different things on this ship as they are available on the Royal Caribbean web site. Our cabin (8560) was great, as nice as any I have had. It was very roomy and had plenty of space for clothing. The balcony was huge and only needed better chairs for relaxing, like loungers, to make it the best. I give the ship’s Spa a rating of A+ for the quality and diversity of equipment and the fact that it has both a steam and sauna, plus a speed bag and a heavy bag to go with a boxing ring. Each treadmill, elliptical, stepper and bicycle had its own TV screen and you could select the channel you watched (had to use your own headphones for sound). There were plenty of pools and hot tubs, and an abundance of lounge chairs around the pools and on other decks. It was not hard to find a seat.

The formal dining room is a three story room that is elegant. The food was good and so was the wait service for dinner. We didn’t feel the same for breakfast and lunch, but it was acceptable. The major problems I had with food service on ship was accessibility for casual dining. It appears that the intent on the ship is to keep all food consumption in one area of the ship. The primary casual dining place is the Windjammer Café on Deck 11. The Windjammer is too small to handle all of the passengers on ship for casual dining. When we first boarded ship we had to really hunt for a place to sit and found that the same applied any time we went there during peak hours. The option of taking food from the Windjammer to the pool or your cabin is made difficult because you must go back out of the one entrance, through a busy elevator bay, and then through a revolving door in order to get to the pool area and the first pool that you come to is the kids’ H2O zone. In addition, if you want a cup of coffee or tea, or even iced tea or lemonade you have only one place to go, the Windjammer. That’s a long walk from most anywhere, and you have to negotiate the crowds. We found that ordering breakfast room service was much better than trying to get to the Windjammer. The room service was great with food usually delivered in 15 to 20 minutes.

The entertainment was good, except one comedian who stuck, and the last show was really good. Another big plus for this ship is its’ stop at the Royal Caribbean’s private island, Labadee. The island is huge and has a variety of beaches and activities (like Jet Ski and parasailing). There were enough lounge chairs for everyone and plenty of shade trees. They even have a tram to take you from one end to the other and sand wheel chairs for the handicapped. The beach party food was nothing special, standard foods like hot dogs and hamburgers, etc. The one thing that we needed was a map of the island so we would know where things were.

Drinks are expensive and pretty much the same price on all ships.

Travel To Costa Rica In January

Michael Travel To Costa Rica In January

Michael asks…

I’m leaving for Costa Rica in January when should I buy?

I’ll be going from Minneapolis to San Jose, Costa Rica. I’m volunteering there for 3 months. All of the deals I’ve found are only good if I’m staying for 2 weeks or so. Is it possible to find cheap tickets if I’m staying so long? And is now a good time to buy or should I keep waiting?

The exact dates are January 16th – April 9th with a little bit of wiggle room on each end.

Players Club Tours answers:

You just need to make sure you compare prices on a daily basis for a couple of weeks. If something seems cheaper than usual, jump on it! There are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. Check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. It’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… Otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. Good luck.

Package Holiday Ibiza

Robert Package Holiday Ibiza

Robert asks…

Holiday destination for 16 year olds?

Me and my friend were thinking of going away to Spain, where could we go? We are quite party animals so wouldn’t mind if it is a bit crazy. Where is cheap with a few clubs and bars? Please, no comments about being under-age drinkers etc.

full square brown cropped Package Holiday Ibiza

Players Club Tours answers:

Ibiza is usually number one on the list of party places in Spain. Benidorm and Alicante are popular with holidaymakers too but I think Alicante is a bit of an older crowd. Benidorm used to be the king of the package holiday – I’m not sure if it still is.

You could also go to the Canary Islands – I think you’d be looking at Tenerife or Lanzarote for clubs over there.

I’m not sure how well you will do if you’re 16 though – some places are a lot tougher than they used to be with underage drinking………or just binge drinking in general – I know Ibiza have been trying to calm things down, but I would have thought it might be your best bet out of the lot for getting drinks.
